SUBJECT: Lake Bluff PTO Newsletter - April 24, 2025

The tulips are blooming, the sun is shining and spring is finally here! The last few months of the school year are upon us, the PTO has tons of upcoming events. Please mark your calendars and consider volunteering if possible, more info on each event can be found below!

Bike To School Day on May 7th - Volunteers Needed!

Two weeks to go until Lake Bluff's Bike to School Day! Dig that bike out of the garage, test the tires, find that helmet, and start talking with neighbors about biking to school together. 

We also need more volunteers! Sign up today!

Staff Appreciation Week at Lake Bluff: May 5 - 9

We will be celebrating Staff Appreciation Week at Lake Bluff from May 5th to 9th. This is a great time to say "THANK YOU!" to all of the important people who impact our students' lives each day. It's not too late to help support all of the various events of the week - click here!

  • Sunday, 5/4
    • Chalk the Walk - Stop by Lake Bluff to draw or write a message of gratitude to our wonderful staff. Chalk will be placed by both the front and back doors!
  • Monday, 5/5 - The Breakfast Club
    • Staff will enjoy an all you can drink coffee and tea bar in the morning from Coffee On a Cloud (often seen at the Shorewood Farmer's Market).
  • Tuesday, 5/6 - Inside Out 2
    • All Lake Bluff staff members will receive a thank you note and gift from the PTO, as well as have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a handful of self care items to help them "focus on their feelings" - raffle items include massage gift card, rage room experience, gardening supplies, book store gift card and more!
  • Wednesday, 5/7 - Ratatouille
    • Staff will enjoy a catered lunch, thanks to your donations! If you are still interested in purchasing lunch for a staff member you can do that here!
  • Thursday, 5/8 - Willy Wonka
    • A candy bar will be set up in the staff lounge for our "music makers and dreamers of dreams" to enjoy throughout the day!
  • Friday, 5/9 - And That's a Wrap
    • Staff will enjoy breakfast in the morning and a Goody Gourmet popcorn bar, along with a fridge full of drinks, in the afternoon.
All School Read - Weekly Quiz Closes Tonight

It's the second week of our All School Read, the delightful Skunk and Badger

Screen-Free Week is Approaching: May 5th - 9th

Join us for the Screen-Free Week Kick-off event on Sunday, May 4th from 3:30-5:00pm at Three Lion’s Pub. There will be arts and crafts for kids and resources and more information about Screen-Free Week for the adults. Connect with other Lake Bluff parents around screens, technology and parenting. 

This year’s schedule of activities will include the ever-popular UWM Planetarium movies and a new Family Open Swim at the VHE swimming pool at Shorewood High School.

Screen Free Week - Planetarium Night

Please join Atwater & Lake Bluff PTO for Planetarium Night at the UWM Manfred Olson Planetarium! There are two nights to choose from:

  • 5/05: The program is "Moving to Mars" and will run from 6:30-7:30 pm
  • 5/07: The program is "Life of a Star" and will run from 6:30-7:30 pm

Attendance is capped at 75 people per night.  Please sign up to save your spot and revise your sign up if you are unable to attend.

Scholastic Book Fair: May 6th through 8th

The Book Fair is coming to Lake Bluff this spring! All students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair during the school day, additionally it will be open immediately after school on Tuesday (5/6) and Wednesday (5/7), with extra hours before and after the talent show on Thursday (5/8).

6th Grade Photos Needed!

The 6th Grade Celebration committee has started planning for the 6th Grade Completion Ceremony on Thursday, June 12th. We hope you and your student's loved ones will join us to celebrate their accomplishments from 8:30-9:30 AM that morning with a ceremony in the Cafetorium, followed by the opportunity for photos and refreshments. More information about that day will be shared in the coming weeks, along with volunteer opportunities.

One loved tradition of that day is a short video with photos of all the 6th graders. Please send a current photo and a baby photo of your student to 6thgradepicslb@gmail.com by Friday, May 2nd.

Lunch Room Composting Fundraiser

Help raise money for composting at Lake Bluff!

Compost Crusader is offering a fundraiser to help offset the costs of composting - a 35 lb bag of compost is $18.00 and $4 from each bag will go back to Lake Bluff.

The Lake Bluff Talent Show Returns, May 8th!

Auditions have been held and the students are hard at work. Mark your calendar  to attend the Lake Bluff Talent Show on Thursday, May 8th at 6 pm in the Lake Bluff Cafetorium. You will be so impressed by the talented students in our community.


Family Music Nights

Join Ms. Church in the Lake Bluff Cafetorium for Family Music Nights! These are informal and multi-generational evenings of joyful singing, dance and musical fun. These activities last about 35 minutes.

Did you know you can shop online for Lake Bluff spirit wear and gifts? The shop has a small curated collection of items including t-shirts, mugs, water bottles, Pura Vida bracelets and more! Items are delivered to classrooms weekly.

Have you registered for the School Directory?

Please take a moment to go to the PTO Website, www.LakeBluffBeagle.com. Within five minutes and a few clicks, you can update your child's information in the PTO/School Directory, pay your annual contribution to the teacher/staff gift fund, review the volunteer opportunities, and more. Please be sure to select this year's teacher for each student to receive class-specific communications.

The Lake Bluff Directory is the only place to find the names and contact information of Lake Bluff students. It serves as the school directory. Also, by updating/inputting your information, the PTO can send occasional emails regarding upcoming events.

How the PTO Supports the Lake Bluff Community

It's the PTO's mission to foster the Lake Bluff through community events and supporting the wonderful staff. The PTO raises money to support a wide array of programming for the Lake Bluff Community. What do we spend it on? 

To date in the 2024-25 school year, your volunteer run PTO has:

  • Free Little Libraries installed and filled. (One FLL was donated by the 2023 6th grade class and the other was donated by the PTO in conjunction with the All School Read)
  • Hosted the New Families Popsicle Social for over 240 people and gifts for new families
  • Hosted Back to School Breakfast for all staff
  • Provided mini-grants to all teachers to help underwrite the out-of-pocket beginning-of-the-year costs
  • Beautification and cleanup of the Lake Bluff grounds
  • Hosted our Welcome Back Coffee
  • Planned and Hosted the 100th celebration!
  • Hosted Walk & Roll to School Celebration
  • Hosted a the Fall grounds beautification and planting
  • Planned Parent Teacher Conferences' Staff Buffet 
  • Executed Beagle Dash
  • Hosted Hot Chocolate for the Halloween Party
  • Planted 1000 tulip bulbs across the school grounds
  • Hosted Scholastic book fair and made sure every child had a book and all classroom wish lists were fulfilled.
  • Distributed over $14,000 in Education Grants throughout Lake Bluff
  • Thanked teachers with Thanksgiving Pizza Pie lunch.
  • Planned, purchased and wrapped Holiday gifts for all 78 staff members through the Staff Gift Fund. 
  • Coordinated Holiday Treat Buffet for staff
  • Purchased books for little free library.
  • Planned winter break Admirals game
  • Hosted the Lake Bluff Movie Night
  • Staff Valentine's Gift
  • 5th and 6th Grade Dance
  • Staff St. Patrick's Day Gift
  • Spring Conference Snack Buffet
  • Math Night with Mathnasium of WFB
  • And more...
Volunteer - We have opportunities for everyone's interest and availability!

Please take a few minutes to look at the list of volunteer opportunities. We have something for everyone's interest, time limits and talents. Spring events include the Talent Show and the Sixth Grade Graduation!

We are also beginning to gather volunteers for events during the 2025-2026 school year. If you are interested in getting involved please complete this interest form!
