SUBJECT: Lake Bluff PTO Newsletter - September 26, 2024

Thank you to everyone who came to commemorate 100 years of Lake Bluff! It was a lovely day to celebrate a century of community. We are so grateful for all the volunteers who made the event possible. Also a warm thank you to Shorewood Historical Society for their collaboration.

What a great morning for our first PTO meeting! Thank you to all those that could attend. We are always happy to grow our community and build new relationships in the Lake Bluff family.

As we mentioned, there are many ways to volunteer. One immediate need is for a volunteer to help take yearbook pictures and learn the ropes to take over from the retiring volunteer chair next year. More info can always be found on the PTO website.

Beagle Dash, our main fundraiser, is two weeks away! You should have received two flyers about this all school event. Early registration has begun. More details below or on our website including how to volunteer.

See you on Wednesday, at Walk and Roll to School Day. It's the best morning of year!

Please get in touch with PTO President Tracy Yothsackda with any questions. Together, we are the Lake Buff community!

The goal of the fun run is to raise funds that will allow us to continue to provide and expand enrichment opportunities that strengthen our school community. All the Beagle Dash details are found on our website.

Walk and Roll To School Day!, This Wednesday

Lake Bluff will be celebrating International Walk and Roll to School Day the morning of October 2nd! This event celebrates walking, biking, and rolling in Shorewood and in the community. This year, the SHS band will help us celebrate our walkable community.

There are many ways to participate, including:

  • Walking, biking, or rolling (scooting, using a mobility device, skating, etc.) to school

  • Biking with your child on their own or with a trail-a-bike

  • Parking a few blocks away from the school and walking the rest of the way

We also need volunteers to help us plan and run the event! Please sign up to help hang up banners, hand out pencils, or help at the selfie stations- https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4AA5AF29A1F5CF8-51290830-lake

Thank you & Request for Photos

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all who volunteered and attended Saturday's Centennial Celebration. We could not have done it without your support! There is much to celebrate this year, and we look forward to bringing the spirit of 100 years into future events. Stay tuned for more fun!

Thank you to the Centennial Committee for all their handwork and dedication. Thank you, Sarah Keefe, Catie Boon, Kate Flynn Post, Dee Dee Nelson and Nick Scher-Hubing.

Do you have photos from the event you'd like to share? Please send them to lakebluffyearbook@gmail.com.  We welcome photos from everyone.

We are still working on our memorabilia collection. Items can be dropped off in the Lake Bluff office.

Thank you for your support.

Tulip Planting at Lake Bluff

Join us to get the Lake Bluff garden beds full of tulips for the Spring!

In honor of the 100 year anniversary of Lake Bluff, the PTO will be planting 1000 red tulips in the garden beds. Come help dig, plant, and be part of a beautiful commemoration!

We will plan on planting Sunday, October 6th from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm and again on Saturday, October 26th from 9:00 am - 11:00 am if we don't get them all planted the first day!

Please click here to let us know if you will be attending and how many will be joining you. Students are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult (this is not a drop-off event).

Equipment will be available, but please bring your own gloves and garden shovels if you have them.

Have you registered for the School Directory?

Please take a moment to go to the PTO Website, www.LakeBluffBeagle.com. Within five minutes and a few clicks, you can update your child's information in the PTO/School Directory, pay your annual contribution to the teacher/staff gift fund, review the volunteer opportunities, and more. Please be sure to select this year's teacher for each student to receive class-specific communications.

The Lake Bluff Directory is the only place to find the names and contact information of Lake Bluff students. It serves as the school directory. Also, by updating/inputting your information, the PTO can send occasional emails regarding upcoming events.

Download the free Membership Toolkit companion app for mobile access to the website.

Join the Yearbook Team! Do you enjoy taking photos?

The yearbook committee is looking for 1-2 new volunteers this year to take photos and help with layout. Ideally, learning the ropes to take over for next year since it's the current chair's last year.

Please contact PTO President Tracy Yothsackda.

How the PTO Supports the Lake Bluff Community

It's the PTO's mission to foster the Lake Bluff through community events and supporting the wonderful staff. The PTO raises money to support a wide array of programming for the Lake Bluff Community. What do we spend it on?

To date in the 2024-25 school year, your PTO has:

  • Free Little Libraries installed and filled. (One FLL was donated by the 2023 6th grade class and the other was donated by the PTO in conjunction with the All School Read)
  • Hosted the New Families Popsicle Social for over 240 people and gifts for new families
  • Hosted Back to School Breakfast for all staff
  • Provided mini-grants to all teachers to help underwrite the out-of-pocket beginning-of-the-year costs
  • Beautification and cleanup of the Lake Bluff grounds
  • Hosted our Welcome Back Coffee
  • Planned the 100th celebration!
Volunteer - We have opportunities for everyone's interest and availability!

Please take a few minutes to look at the list of volunteer opportunities. We have something for everyone's interest, time limits and talents.

Volunteer to help on the morning of October 2 as we celebrate Walk to School Day.

Additionally there are a number of volunteer opportunities including helping with Conference Snacks for Staff, Picture Day, the Fun Run and more.  Sign-up here
